TOEIC score guide: what is a good TOEIC score?
The TOEIC Listening & Reading test is scored from 10 to 990 (5–495 per section). A score of 600+ is generally considered good for entry-level office jobs, 750+ is strong for international business, and 900+ is near-professional proficiency.
How the TOEIC score works
The test has 200 questions: 100 Listening (45 minutes) and 100 Reading (75 minutes). Each section is scored on a 5–495 scale, giving a total of 10–990.
There is no penalty for wrong answers, so you should never leave a question blank. Raw scores are converted to scaled scores, so the exact number of correct answers needed for a score can vary slightly between test forms.

What different TOEIC scores mean
| Total score | Typical level | Common use |
|---|---|---|
| below 450 | Elementary | Basic everyday English |
| 450–595 | Lower intermediate | Graduation requirements at many universities |
| 600–745 | Intermediate | Many office and service jobs |
| 750–895 | Upper intermediate | International business, promotions |
| 900–990 | Advanced | Working fully in English |
Requirements differ by company, university and country, so always check the exact target you need.
TOEIC and CEFR
ETS publishes minimum section scores for each CEFR level. Approximately: B1 = 275 Listening and 275 Reading, B2 = 400 Listening and 385 Reading, C1 = 490 Listening and 455 Reading.
