TOEIC Part 6 tips: text completion
TOEIC Part 6 has 16 questions in 4 short texts, each with 4 blanks. Unlike Part 5, you need the context of the whole passage: read the sentences around each blank, check tense and pronouns against the rest of the text, and for the sentence-insertion question choose the sentence that connects logically to what comes before and after.
What Part 6 tests
Each text (email, notice, article, advertisement) has 3 word or phrase blanks and 1 blank where you choose a full sentence. Grammar, vocabulary and coherence are all tested.

Read the context
- Tense: an event that already happened in the email needs past tense.
- Pronouns: 'they', 'it' and 'this' must match something mentioned earlier.
- Connectors: 'however', 'therefore', 'in addition' depend on the relationship between two sentences.
Sentence-insertion questions
Read the sentence before and after the blank. The correct sentence continues the same topic and often refers back to something with words like 'this', 'these' or 'such'. Options that introduce a new topic are usually wrong.
Time target
Aim for about 2 minutes per text (8 minutes for Part 6) so you keep enough time for Part 7.
